API sync and file feed

The two ways Drypowder receives AR data from Spruce, and what each mode enables.

Drypowder can receive AR data from Spruce in two ways: API sync and file feed. Which mode your dealership uses is set during onboarding and affects a small number of features, most importantly whether Drypowder surfaces statement data.

API sync

In API sync mode, Drypowder connects directly to Spruce through ECI's private API and pulls AR data in real time. When a new invoice is created in Spruce, it appears in Drypowder within seconds. There is nothing to upload or schedule.

API sync does not provide statement data — Drypowder does not receive the statement balance, the discount date, or the invoice items that roll into a statement.

As a result, payers on API sync can pay individual invoices but cannot pay a full statement through the Payments portal. The statement views (Total Balance, Last Statement, Since Last Statement) are not available.

File feed

In file feed mode, Spruce sends AR data to Drypowder through a structured file exchange rather than a direct API call. Drypowder processes these files automatically; there is nothing an operator needs to do once the integration is configured.

File feed includes statement data — balance, discount date, and the invoice items that make up each statement — which is what enables the statement experience in the Payments portal.

Statement payments and statement discounts require file feed mode. A payer cannot pay a full statement balance in one transaction, or receive a statement discount for paying by the discount date, unless the dealership is on file feed.

Choosing between the two

ECI's implementation team configures the mode during dealer onboarding. For new Spruce-integrated dealers, file feed is the default. The practical difference for most dealers is small: both modes keep invoice data current and both support invoice-level payments. Statement support is the only feature that depends on this setting.

If you are unsure which mode your dealership uses, ask your Drypowder implementation contact.
